1:1ThewordsofthePreacher，thesonofDavid，kinginJerusale

1:2Vanityofvanities，saiththePreacher，vanityofvanities;allisvanity.

1:3Whatprofithathamanofallhislabourwhichhetakethunderthesun?

1:4Onegenerationpassethaway，andanothergenerationeth:buttheearthabidethforever.

1:5Thesunalsoariseth，andthesungoethdown，andhastethtohisplacewherehearose.

1:6Thewindgoethtowardthesouth，andturnethaboutuntothenorth;itwhirlethaboutcontinually，andthewindreturnethagainaccordingtohiscircuits.

1:7Alltheriversrunintothesea;yettheseaisnotfull;untotheplacefromwhencetheriverse，thithertheyreturnagain.

1:8Allthingsarefulloflabour;mancannotutterit:theeyeisnotsatisfiedwithseeing，northeearfilledwithhearing.

1:9Thethingthathathbeen，itisthatwhichshallbe;andthatwhichisdoneisthatwhichshallbedone:andthereisnonewthingunderthesun.

1:10Isthereanythingwhereofitmaybesaid，See，thisisnew?ithathbeenalreadyofoldtime，whichwasbeforeus.

1:11Thereisnoremembranceofformerthings;neithershalltherebeanyremembranceofthingsthataretoewiththosethatshalleafter.

1:12IthePreacherwaskingoverIsraelinJerusale

1:13AndIgavemyhearttoseekandsearchoutbywisdomconcerningallthingsthataredoneunderheaven:thissoretravailhathGodgiventothesonsofmantobeexercisedtherewith.

1:14Ihaveseenalltheworksthataredoneunderthesun;and，behold，allisvanityandvexationofspirit.

1:15Thatwhichiscrookedcannotbemadestraight:andthatwhichiswantingcannotbenumbered.

1:16Imunedwithmineownheart，saying，Lo，Iametogreatestate，andhavegottenmorewisdomthanalltheythathavebeenbeforemeinJerusalem:yea，myhearthadgreatexperienceofwisdomandknowledge.

1:17AndIgavemyhearttoknowwisdom，andtoknowmadnessandfolly:Iperceivedthatthisalsoisvexationofspirit.

1:18Forinmuchwisdomismuchgrief:andhethatincreasethknowledgeincreasethsorrow.

2:1Isaidinmineheart，Gotonow，Iwillprovetheewithmirth，thereforeenjoypleasure:and，behold，thisalsoisvanity.

2:2Isaidoflaughter，Itismad:andofmirth，Whatdoethit?

2:3Isoughtinminehearttogivemyselfuntowine，yetacquaintingmineheartwithwisdom;andtolayholdonfolly，tillImightseewhatwasthatgoodforthesonsofmen，whichtheyshoulddoundertheheavenallthedaysoftheirlife.

2:4Imademegreatworks;Ibuildedmehouses;Iplantedmevineyards:

2:5Imademegardensandorchards，andIplantedtreesinthemofallkindoffruits:

2:6Imademepoolsofwater，towatertherewiththewoodthatbringethforthtrees:

2:7Igotmeservantsandmaidens，andhadservantsborninmyhouse;alsoIhadgreatpossessionsofgreatandsmallcattleaboveallthatwereinJerusalembeforeme:

2:8Igatheredmealsosilverandgold，andthepeculiartreasureofkingsandoftheprovinces:Igatmemensingersandwomensingers，andthedelightsofthesonsofmen，asmusicalinstruments，andthatofallsorts.

2:9SoIwasgreat，andincreasedmorethanallthatwerebeforemeinJerusalem:alsomywisdomremainedwithme.

2:10AndwhatsoevermineeyesdesiredIkeptnotfromthem，Iwithheldnotmyheartfromanyjoy;formyheartrejoicedinallmylabour:andthiswasmyportionofallmylabour.

2:11ThenIlookedonalltheworksthatmyhandshadwrought，andonthelabourthatIhadlabouredtodo:and，behold，allwasvanityandvexationofspirit，andtherewasnoprofitunderthesun.

2:12AndIturnedmyselftobeholdwisdom，andmadness，andfolly:forwhatcanthemandothatethaftertheking?eventhatwhichhathbeenalreadydone.

2:13ThenIsawthatwisdomexcellethfolly，asfaraslightexcellethdarkness.

2:14Thewisemanseyesareinhishead;butthefoolwalkethindarkness:andImyselfperceivedalsothatoneeventhappenethtothemall.

2:15ThensaidIinmyheart，Asithappenethtothefool，soithappenetheventome;andwhywasIthenmorewise?ThenIsaidinmyheart，thatthisalsoisvanity.

2:16Forthereisnoremembranceofthewisemorethanofthefoolforever;seeingthatwhichnowisinthedaystoeshallallbeforgotten.Andhowdieththewiseman?asthefool.

2:17ThereforeIhatedlife;becausetheworkthatiswroughtunderthesunisgrievousuntome:forallisvanityandvexationofspirit.

2:18Yea，IhatedallmylabourwhichIhadtakenunderthesun:becauseIshouldleaveituntothemanthatshallbeafterme.
